CALIFORNIA - Day 1, 20 miles
0.0 the southern terminus to Lake Morena mile 20.0
"Come to the deserts of California", they said. "There's a drought right now", they said...
It rained all day today and it was darn cold. It's the AT 2.0. However it was still a good day. Last night I spent the night at two trail angels house, Scout and Frodo. The husband and wife duo hiked the trail a few years ago and have been hosting hikers ever since. This year they will host about 600 hikes total! They are truly amazing people.
I spent the day hiking with new friends, Carl and Sven. Carl is from Canada and Sven is from the Netherlands. They are both first time thru-hikers and kept a good pace so we all decided to try and make it as far as we could.
The landscape is definitely different than the AT. No more green tunnel, they call this a desert but it's not what I imaged as a desert. There is a lot of greenery but it's mostly low lying shrubs and plants.
Despite the rain it was a good day and met tons of new people.
